Overview
A prestigious Ship Owner/Operator is looking to recruit an experienced and proactive Supra-Panamax Freight Trader specializing in dry bulk shipping. This position calls for candidates with at least 5 years of direct experience in freight trading specific to Supra-Panamax vessels. This role presents an exciting chance to apply in-depth industry knowledge and strategic market insights to enhance profitable trading activities and contribute significantly to the company's objectives.
Responsibilities
- Manage the buying and selling of freight for Supra-Panamax dry bulk vessels, utilizing market data and intelligence to guide decisions and maximize gains.
- Continuously analyze global market trends, freight pricing, and shipping supply and demand to uncover trade prospects, reduce risks, and seize market shifts.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with ship owners, charterers, brokers, and other stakeholders to identify cargo and vessel opportunities, negotiate contracts, and build lasting collaborations.
- Evaluate and control exposure to trading risks, including price fluctuations, counterparty reliability, and geopolitical elements, implementing hedging and other risk controls when needed.
- Oversee the execution of freight agreements, ensuring adherence to contracts, charter party conditions, and industry standards while facilitating seamless cargo and vessel operations.
- Track and assess trading outcomes such as profit and loss, trading volumes, and market share, delivering regular performance reports to leadership and identifying improvement areas.
Requirements
- Possess a bachelor's degree in Business, Maritime Studies, Economics, or a closely related discipline.
- At least five years of freight trading experience with a specific emphasis on Supra-Panamax vessels in the dry bulk sector.
- Proven history of consistent profitable freight trading and effective management of associated risks.
- In-depth knowledge of dry bulk shipping fundamentals including vessel categories, cargo types, freight rate structures, and chartering conventions.
- Strong analytical abilities and expertise in using market analysis tools and software for data interpretation, trend forecasting, and informed trading decisions.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills to cultivate robust relationships with diverse industry players.
- Driven, self-starting, and focused on results, with enthusiasm for the maritime industry and aptitude for thriving in fast-moving, competitive trading environments.
