Position Summary

Reporting to the Civil Superintendent, the Formsetter role involves constructing, repairing, and installing structural formwork using wood or metal to facilitate concrete construction. A sound understanding of construction industry practices, tools, materials, specifications, quality control, and safety requirements is essential. The role demands proficiency in building traditional wood forms as well as advanced formwork systems, alongside concrete pouring and placement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Construct, layout, and apply wooden and advanced formwork systems per project specifications, utilizing calculations based on grade requirements.
  • Ensure formwork designs and placements meet construction specs and maintain proper grades.
  • Use levels and measuring tapes effectively to set forms accurately with minimal direction.
  • Build chutes, align form panels appropriately for concrete pouring operations.
  • Place and compact concrete within forms using appropriate tools to achieve required finishes.
  • Comply with health and safety guidelines personally and supervise any apprentices accordingly.
  • Operate and maintain tools safely and responsibly.
  • Follow instructions and direction respectfully.
  • Assemble, construct, and dismantle scaffolding when necessary.
  • Transport materials to the work site as required.
  • Carry out additional related duties, including minor tasks of other trades within certification and capability limits.

Candidate Requirements

  • Between 3 to 5 years of practical experience with various formwork types in heavy construction environments.
  • Proven expertise in advanced formwork techniques.
  • Familiarity with Symons form systems and Advantage formwork systems.
  • Hands-on experience with residential basement formwork.
  • Experience in pouring concrete and finishing flat concrete surfaces is advantageous.
  • Understanding of tool operation safety.
  • Ability to handle equipment responsibly and safely.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety, including safe lifting and handling procedures.
  • Experience with hoisting and rigging is a plus.
  • Possession of valid certifications including WHMIS, Health and Safety Awareness Training for Workers, and Working at Heights.
  • Additional training certificates such as Elevated/Aerial Work Platform and confined space are desirable.
