Role Purpose

The FinOps Engineer will be responsible for promoting financial accountability, optimizing costs, and improving operational efficiency related to cloud infrastructure within the Cloud Operations team. This position ensures full visibility into cloud expenditures, adopts cost-efficient provisioning strategies, and balances financial prudence with agile engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive FinOps roadmap aligned to company objectives.
  • Create governance policies related to resource usage, provisioning protocols, and budget approvals.
  • Work collaboratively with Finance, Product, and Engineering teams to maintain transparent costs and robust budgeting practices.
  • Manage vendor engagements including cloud providers and software suppliers, oversee purchase order processes, and ensure prompt invoice payments.
  • Design and launch a FinOps observability platform to continuously monitor and analyze cloud costs and consumption.
  • Integrate cloud cost management tools directly into software development lifecycle processes.
  • Define, monitor, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) tracking cloud cost optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Enforce policies on instance size optimization, resource provisioning, and decommissioning of unused assets.
  • Champion automation initiatives aimed at reducing costs across cloud environments.
  • Promote awareness of FinOps best practices across engineering teams and conduct educational sessions to enhance financial literacy among technical staff.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in FinOps, cloud operations, or cloud financial management domains.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), alongside their cost structures.
  • Experience utilizing cloud cost management tools.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Proficiency in designing governance frameworks and automating processes for cost control and optimization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified FinOps Practitioner or equivalent professional certification.
  • Background experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or cloud architecture disciplines.
  • Familiarity with budgeting and financial workflows within large-scale organizations.
