Financial Controller

Overview

Barden has been appointed as the exclusive recruitment partner for a reputable engineering and project-driven company in the Waterford area, seeking a Financial Controller to lead and manage their finance operations.

Role Summary

This position offers a chance for a commercially astute Financial Controller to assume full responsibility for the finance function within a well-established business focused on engineering projects. Reporting to senior management, you will play a pivotal role in shaping financial strategy, enhancing controls, and advancing system enhancements, along with leading and developing the finance team. The role requires a blend of operational involvement and strategic financial contribution.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the company’s financial affairs ensuring accurate and reliable financial statements.
• Lead and mentor a close-knit finance team.
• Maintain ownership of the nominal ledger configuration and monthly financial reporting, including site-specific, project-specific, and departmental profit & loss statements.
• Partner with project managers to monitor expenses and profitability across several simultaneous projects.
• Compile quarterly financial reports and steer budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning efforts.
• Oversee cash flow, working capital management, and supplier payment terms that align with project schedules.
• Coordinate the annual audit process and serve as the primary liaison with auditors.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and taxation, including sector-specific tax filings and Central Statistics Office submissions.
• Contribute to the implementation of an updated finance system.
• Perform additional tasks typical of a Financial Controller, such as acting as Company Secretary, handling environmental reporting, insurance, pension administration, and other leadership financial duties as needed.

Candidate Profile

• Professional accountant qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with robust post-qualification experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance position.
• Proven leadership skills with experience in managing and cross-training finance personnel.
• Strong commercial insight with a hands-on approach to cost accounting, combined with strategic-level engagement.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills capable of fostering strong relationships with project teams and senior management.
