Job description

Overview

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Crump Clifton Campus is seeking a full-time, non-exempt Custodian to oversee building security and maintenance. This role includes opening and closing campus facilities, performing custodial tasks, seasonal grounds upkeep, managing heating and air conditioning systems, and operating powered equipment. The candidate must be adaptable to shifting duties and capable of multitasking effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and upkeep of buildings and mechanical systems.
  • Observe safety procedures in handling, storing, and using equipment, chemicals, and materials.
  • Manage inventory levels of janitorial supplies.
  • Replace light bulbs when necessary, and ensure mechanical rooms are clean and accessible.
  • Remove indoor and outdoor trash from buildings, lawns, and parking lots daily.
  • Clean breakrooms thoroughly, including counters, sinks, floors, tables, and chairs.
  • Maintain cleanliness of drinking fountains, outside walkways, doormats, and clear snow and ice as required.
  • Vacuum classrooms and offices weekly; dust mop hallways daily; wet mop hallways weekly or as needed.
  • Clean and mop restrooms daily; replenish hand towels, toilet tissue, and soaps in restrooms and shop areas.
  • Clean glass doors daily; wash windows as required; dust furniture and fixtures weekly; buff floors when necessary.
  • Maintain lawns, campus grounds, and building mechanical systems.
  • Operate powered equipment to support job functions.
  • Supervise student work-study assistants.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • A courteous and friendly attitude towards coworkers and the public is essential.
  • Flexible willingness to work varying schedules as needed.
  • A valid Tennessee driver's license is required.
  • Successful candidates will undergo an employment history review, reference check, and criminal background screening.
  • Effective communication skills in listening, speaking, writing, and reading to understand and follow directions.
  • Knowledge of safe chemical use and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Comfort with physical activities including climbing ladders/stairs, bending, stooping, twisting, kneeling, and lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Capability to work indoors and outdoors with repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle for travel within the college service region and additional areas as required.

Salary and Application Details

The salary range for this position is $27,129 to $29,979 per year, aligned with the Tennessee College of Applied Technology salary guidelines.
