Role Summary
The Fabrication Estimator reports to the Estimating Manager and plays a key role in pricing and pre-construction phases of fabrication projects. Responsibilities involve coordinating pricing with subcontractors and suppliers and analyzing fabrication stages to optimize cost efficiency and workflow sequencing.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze client bid packages to identify required resources for quotation preparation.
- Ensure estimates comprehensively and cost-effectively address the tender scope.
- Prepare detailed bid packages and act as the single point of contact for subcontracted special processes supporting fabrication.
- Aggregate pricing by reviewing proposals from various sources.
- Evaluate costs associated with rentals, tools, equipment, and non-productive labor.
- Participate in tender proposal processes including reviewing terms and conditions, bonding and insurance, tender breakdowns, organizational charts, company experience documentation, craft rates, mark-ups, preliminary schedules, and execution plans.
- Prior to bid submission, consult with the Estimating Manager on labor efficiency, indirect labor requirements, equipment needs, overhead, and profit considerations.
- Perform material takeoffs and participate in post-tender activities such as sales coordination, tender review meetings, negotiations, project initiation, and contract support.
- Attend kick-off meetings as needed.
- Stay informed about current market conditions impacting fabrication costs.
- Maintain knowledge of relevant standards and regulations including ASME codes, TSSA requirements, piping codes, contract law, material specifications, scheduling, labor supply, and modern fabrication methods.
Qualifications and Skills
- Community College degree/diploma in a technical field or equivalent construction trade experience.
- Understanding of fabricated components and related processes.
- Experience in project scheduling.
- Familiarity with welding techniques and fabrication equipment.
- Knowledge of ASME pressure vessel and piping codes.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Microsoft Project or Primavera, and 3D viewing software.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to perform effectively under time constraints and work cooperatively within a team environment.

Compensation and Benefits
The offered salary range is $80,000 to $95,000 annually.
