Role Overview

We are seeking a commercially driven Excess Buyer for our APAC Excess team. This role involves managing small to medium excess inventory accounts, assessing excess inventory lists critically, building supplier partnerships, and converting opportunities into sales backed by customers. It serves as a core account ownership position aimed at developing skills for advancement to Senior Excess Buyer roles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee assigned small and midsize excess accounts and cultivate relationships initiated by Junior Excess Buyers.
  • Analyze and prioritize excess, obsolete, and unwanted component inventories received from customers and suppliers.
  • Verify critical details including manufacturer part number, maker, quantities, date codes, condition, packaging, pricing targets, and location details.
  • Negotiate purchasing of excess inventory within established approval thresholds and escalate complex or large-value deals appropriately.
  • Collaborate with Sales teams to align matched customer demand, proactively propose offers, and identify potential cost saving opportunities.
  • Support purchase order follow-up, maintain supplier communications, coordinate deliveries, and resolve issues with internal teams.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate CRM records, supplier profiles, opportunity documentation, and account development strategies.
  • Mentor Junior Excess Buyers in account management, outreach effectiveness, inventory list compilation, CRM standards, and fundamental excess inventory concepts.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in purchasing, sourcing, sales, electronic component distribution, EMS/OEM supply chain, or a related commercial environment.
  • Capability to effectively qualify excess inventory lists, understanding crucial attributes like part numbers, manufacturers, quantities, date codes, packaging, and lead times.
  • Proficient negotiation skills with the ability to manage purchase opportunities within authorization limits.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with customers, suppliers, sales, logistics, quality, and finance departments.
  • Strong discipline in CRM data entry and maintenance to ensure clean and current account records.
  • Ability to manage several accounts simultaneously, maintain consistent follow-up, and prioritize opportunities based on value, quality, and demand levels.
  • Understanding of account ownership protocols and protecting sales relationships.

Preferred Skills and Additional Expertise

  • Hands-on experience in independent distribution, excess inventory management, electronic components, or procurement operations.
  • Familiarity with component categories including semiconductors, passive components, connectors, electromechanical parts, and sensors.
  • Experience in handling OEM, EMS, ODM, Original Component Manufacturer, Tier supplier, or distributor accounts.
  • Proven ability to prepare proactive offers, opportunity analyses, and supplier/customer account plans.
  • Capable of training junior team members and contributing to a structured career development path.
  • Language skills suitable for regional communication across APAC cultures and time zones.
