About the Opportunity

We represent a seasoned UK civil engineering contractor expanding their pre-construction team by adding several Estimators across different experience levels. This key role demands developing precise cost plans and bids to underpin project success, particularly within infrastructure and earthworks domains. You will oversee the full estimate lifecycle, from initial enquiry and scope analysis to preparing final bid submissions, collaborating closely with technical teams, suppliers, and the wider supply chain to achieve financially sound results.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough cost evaluations for materials, workforce, equipment, and subcontracted services.
  • Interpret technical drawings, project specifications, and work details to clearly define the project scope.
  • Manage the tender process ensuring alignment of estimates and punctual submission.
  • Cultivate strong supplier and subcontractor relationships to negotiate competitive pricing.
  • Create comprehensive documentation and handover materials to support project teams and enhance ongoing estimating methodologies.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience in civil engineering, infrastructure, or earthworks estimation, with proven ability to develop cost models from first principles.
  • Strong analytical mindset combined with attention to detail and solid commercial insight.
  • Skilled in using industry-standard estimating software and highly proficient with Microsoft Excel.
  • Effective communicator with strong stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  • Experienced in reviewing tender documentation and managing bids throughout the estimating process.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of three years' experience in civil engineering or earthworks estimation roles.
  • Background working on large or technically challenging projects and good knowledge of UK standards and cost factors is beneficial.
  • Educational or professional training in civil engineering, quantity surveying, construction management, or related field.
