Environmental Services Attendant

Position Overview

Shannex is seeking a dedicated Environmental Services Attendant to join the Harbourstone Enhanced Care team in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This role offers the chance to contribute meaningfully to resident care by maintaining a clean and safe environment within the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Thoroughly clean communal areas such as lobbies, hallways, and stairwells.
• Sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, and sanitize kitchen and bathroom areas.
• Collect and properly dispose of refuse from residents' rooms in line with procedures.
• Maintain documentation of routine cleaning tasks.
• Conduct audits and inspections as required.
• Complete residents' personal laundry services upon request.
• Manage housekeeping supply needs efficiently and communicate shortages promptly to the supervisor.
• Maintain and restock housekeeping carts; report low supplies to supervisor.
• Promote a safety-first culture by identifying hazards, adhering to safety protocols, using personal protective equipment, and supporting coworkers in safe work practices.

Candidate Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent education.
• At least one year of experience in commercial housekeeping and/or laundry services.
• Strong initiative to complete assignments efficiently while providing friendly and customer-focused service.
• Effective communication skills with both internal staff and external customers, demonstrating politeness and cooperation.
• Knowledge of infection control and prevention measures.
• Experience using cleaning equipment such as auto scrubbers, floor buffers, and vacuums.
• Previous work experience in senior living environments is considered a plus.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while safely handling cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Capability to provide a clear criminal record check upon hiring, including vulnerable sector check if applicable.
• Completion of “Dementia: Understanding the Journey” course is beneficial.
• Passion for working in the healthcare sector and commitment to ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations and care.

Compensation and Benefits

• Hourly wage approximately from CA$20.48 to CA$20.80.
