About Magnet Forensics

Magnet Forensics is a worldwide leader in developing software tools for digital investigations, enabling the collection, analysis, and sharing of evidence from devices including computers, mobile devices, and IoT equipment. Our innovative solutions assist a broad customer base in enhancing digital forensic processes to combat crime, protect assets, and secure national interests. With a diverse, global workforce, we emphasize continuous learning and uphold high standards of integrity and talent.

Role Summary

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to grow and lead a team of approximately 5 to 10 machine learning engineers focused on AI solutions that enhance our digital forensics offerings. This leadership role involves hiring, mentoring, performance management, setting AI/ML standards, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing engineering culture. The team operates remotely across Canada and Sweden, working in cross-functional squads oriented by mission areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure operational excellence by managing delivery, simplifying decision-making, and protecting team autonomy.
  • Support technical direction by engaging closely with projects to identify risks and guide priorities alongside technical leads.
  • Coach engineers through ambiguous challenges, technical trade-offs, and career development, providing actionable feedback.
  • Promote a culture of experimentation to rapidly learn and innovate using data-driven insights.
  • Collaborate with product, UX, and engineering leadership to synchronize roadmaps and priorities.
  • Enhance distributed team dynamics and processes to leverage geographic time zone coverage as an advantage.
  • Evaluate and apply AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully to accelerate productivity without introducing undue risk.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum of three years in engineering leadership roles with a demonstrated ability to build and support strong teams.
  • Practical experience developing applied AI/ML systems sufficient to guide technical decisions and mentor engineers.
  • A passion for coaching senior technical staff with a focus on growth and accountability.
  • Strong decision-making skills capable of balancing complex trade-offs to produce maintainable solutions.
  • Adept at cross-functional communication spanning engineering, product management, UX, and executive teams.
  • Experience managing distributed teams effectively, recognizing the nuances between remote and distributed work environments.
  • Knowledge of AI-assisted engineering workflows and thoughtful integration strategies.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in domains where accuracy and reliability are critical, such as security, healthcare, or legal sectors.
  • Background working with AI/ML deployments in constrained or isolated environments like air-gapped systems.
  • Expertise in building and operating scalable, distributed system architectures.
  • Familiarity with MLOps tools including experiment tracking, model versioning, and CI/CD for machine learning.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this position is approximately 160000 to 210000 Canadian dollars annually, subject to variation based on location and qualifications. Benefits include generous time off, competitive pay, volunteer opportunities, reward programs, employee resource groups, and comprehensive healthcare and retirement plans.

Work Environment and Culture

We support a hybrid-flexible work model suitable for employee productivity and life balance. Employees near offices are invited to attend in-person meetings periodically to foster connection and collaboration. Our core cultural values emphasize care, ownership, dedication, and continuous evolution, forming the foundation of our team ethos and hiring philosophy.
