Role Overview

This position involves shaping and executing Canva's IT strategy that aligns with business objectives through a clear technology roadmap. You will lead and nurture high-performing teams, foster ownership, and promote continuous improvement. Responsibilities include enhancing workforce technology—from onboarding to device and access management—and driving innovation through AI and automation across global campuses.

The role demands building a data-driven culture to monitor service quality, prioritize initiatives, and transparently report progress to executive leadership. You will serve as the IT representative at organizational forums, champion necessary investments and alignment, and personally oversee critical project delivery.

The ideal candidate has significant experience leading internal technology functions at scale and understands exemplary IT leadership. You can effortlessly engage with both executive stakeholders and engineering teams, fostering trust. Passion for leveraging technology to improve workflows in a fast-growing environment is essential. You have a clear vision, can build capable teams, and maintain high-quality standards without sacrificing speed. Commercial acumen to link technology choices with financial and business outcomes is key. Leading by empowering others and cultivating optimal working conditions is central to this role.

About Core IT Team

The Core IT department comprises over 80 professionals across Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Europe, and the USA, managing campus AV, network infrastructure, security, onboarding, device/access management, and AI-driven collaboration tools. The team focuses not only on operational continuity but also on evolving Canva's IT foundations for future growth.
