Role Overview

This position as an Electrical Site Engineer involves offering expert electrical engineering support to maintenance and operational teams managing Mercury's renewable hydroelectric generation assets. You will tackle practical engineering challenges that directly impact asset reliability, performance, and safety. Your responsibilities will include equipment issue investigation, asset condition assessment, engineering improvements management, and supporting complex work returns to service. The role is based on-site at a hydro station along the Waikato River, ideally suited for candidates living in the Hamilton, Cambridge, Rotorua, or Taupo regions.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide expert electrical engineering assistance to maintenance, operations, and projects teams to solve intricate plant and equipment challenges.
• Monitor and assess asset performance, condition, risks, and projected lifespan to inform sound engineering decisions.
• Investigate equipment failures and performance issues to identify root causes and reduce recurrence of defects.
• Identify risks to equipment integrity and design practical remedial strategies.
• Oversee site-based engineering projects and improvements, managing their implementation.
• Conduct and supervise inspections, engineering and failure assessments of plant equipment.
• Offer engineering oversight and quality assurance for complex work returning to operation.
• Ensure all engineering changes comply with Mercury’s Management of Change protocols.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have solid electrical engineering experience with the capability to analyze complex problems, evaluate risks, and formulate practical solutions. They must be confident in assuming ownership of engineering challenges and enjoy collaborative problem solving. Effective communication skills and the ability to engage constructively with operational and maintenance staff are crucial.

Key Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Proven electrical engineering experience, especially in resolving complex plant or equipment issues.
• Strong analytical skills to deconstruct complex problems into manageable parts and develop pragmatic solutions.
• Sound engineering judgement in assessing equipment conditions, performance metrics, and operational risks.
• Collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams including operational, maintenance, project, and other engineering professionals.
• Ability to communicate technical issues effectively to a variety of audiences.

Experience in electricity generation or process industries is advantageous.
