Role Overview
We are seeking an Electrical Estimator to join our Head Office in Loughrea, Co. Galway. This role involves preparing detailed and accurate electrical cost estimates, engaging in design development, and ensuring compliance with risk and commercial governance standards within water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Create comprehensive, well-supported electrical estimates derived from project drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
- Incorporate construction risks realistically while ensuring alignment with company governance and industry norms.
- Participate actively in design stages to evaluate build feasibility, installation techniques, and material choices, while identifying innovative opportunities.
- Offer early-stage cost guidance to inform tender options and ensure value optimization.
- Adhere strictly to all risk management and commercial governance processes with clear documentation.
- Clarify assumptions, exclusions, and any ambiguities to assist strong commercial decision-making.
- Contribute to developing tender and construction schedules and collaborate with planning and discipline leads to build effective staffing and resource plans.
- Coordinate with procurement teams to devise supplier strategies, select subcontractors, negotiate terms, issue and assess quotes to achieve competitive pricing.
- Keep abreast of industry progressions, mechanical systems, installation techniques, and market trends to enhance tender competitiveness and ensure precise cost modeling.
- Develop and fine-tune financial frameworks for submissions, including staff rate calculations and commercial scenario evaluations.
- Assist in price fix assessments with well-reasoned explanations of main mechanical cost factors.
- Utilize a standardized cost coding system for cost tracking, benchmarking, and refining estimating precision.
- Provide insightful feedback to improve cost libraries, production rates, and estimating methods.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- At least five years of experience in Electrical Estimating related to water, wastewater, or similar infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience delivering precise and competitive mechanical cost estimates for complex treatment plants.
- Preferred experience working with UK water utilities.
- Highly developed analytical and numerical skills with strong attention to detail.
- Solid grasp of mechanical engineering principles, treatment processing, and installation methods.
- Proficient with estimating software, digital takeoff tools, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Exceptional organization skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a dynamic tendering environment.
