About The Position

The Great National Hotel Ballina is seeking an experienced Duty Manager to become a vital part of our management team. This position is ideal for a dedicated hospitality professional aiming to progress within a bustling 4-star hotel environment. The Duty Manager plays a crucial role in supporting senior management to ensure seamless daily hotel operations, focusing on outstanding guest experiences, revenue growth, operational efficiency, and team productivity.

Primary Duties

  • Assist the management team in the smooth and effective daily functioning of the hotel and its food and beverage services.
  • Manage food service across breakfast, lunch, dinner, special functions, events, and group meals.
  • Ensure all dining areas are properly prepared, staffed, and maintained throughout shifts.
  • Collaborate closely with kitchen and food and beverage staff to maintain efficient service, excellent communication, and consistently high culinary standards.
  • Oversee food quality, presentation, portion size, service speed, and overall guest satisfaction.
  • Support stock management, minimize waste, control costs, and promote responsible use of hotel assets.
  • Champion exceptional service delivery and adherence to high operating standards across all departments.
  • Greet guests warmly and professionally and manage enquiries and complaints swiftly and effectively.
  • Respond constructively to guest feedback, using it to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure strict compliance with the hotel's SOPs, HACCP, food safety standards, allergen controls, health and safety regulations, and brand expectations.
  • Regularly inspect food service areas and public zones to uphold superior standards.
  • Supervise daily operations across service departments to ensure optimal staffing levels.
  • Collaborate with managers and department heads to foster a productive team environment.
  • Support disciplinary procedures in partnership with senior management to maintain workforce discipline.
  • Encourage an engaged, motivated, and professional team atmosphere through positive leadership.
  • Maximize revenue through strategic upselling and cross-selling techniques.
  • Monitor and manage cost control, waste reduction, and energy consumption.
  • Ensure adherence to proper cash handling, till management, float procedures, and accounting protocols.
  • Liaise with the accounting team for smooth financial processes and effective internal controls.
  • Maintain full health and safety compliance, participating actively in training, drills, and safety protocols.
  • Guarantee the upkeep and presentation of all hotel areas, including equipment and furniture condition and appropriate signage or displays.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by supporting different departments as needed to address business demands.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Prior experience as a Duty Manager or in a supervisory role within a high-volume 4-star hotel environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of hotel operational procedures and hospitality industry dynamics.
  • Sound knowledge of food and beverage service management.
  • Exceptional leadership capabilities paired with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capability to operate independently and cooperate effectively within a management team.
  • Strong organizational aptitude combined with a practical and proactive work ethic.
