Job description

Role Overview

This driving position entails ensuring safe, dependable, and timely transportation for staff, visitors, equipment, and other organizational requirements. The incumbent will also be tasked with maintaining the operational condition of the assigned vehicle, handling proper documentation, aiding field operations, and supporting various logistics and transportation duties as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe and timely driving services with a focus on accuracy and reliability.
  • Exhibit professionalism, courtesy, tactfulness, and the ability to work harmoniously with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Provide transport for operational staff, visiting experts, and authorized personnel across Country Projects.
  • Drive office vehicles for transporting personnel and handling mail, documents, and deliveries.
  • Execute cost-effective vehicle management by maintaining accurate daily logs and contributing to maintenance plans and reports.
  • Conduct daily upkeep of the vehicle including minor repairs, timely oil changes, tire and brake checks, cleaning, and arranging for major repairs.
  • Ensure all necessary vehicle documents and supplies (insurance, logs, maps, first aid kit, spare parts) are current and available.
  • Take appropriate steps following accidents in line with legal and organizational policies.
  • Manage organized patient registration and flow at outreach eye camps in collaboration with Community Health Volunteers or mobilizers.
  • Document detailed medical histories and educate patients about eye care maintaining high standards.
  • Perform additional responsibilities assigned by senior leadership according to organizational needs.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years professional driving experience.
  • Valid Kenyan driver’s license qualifying to drive vans.
  • Valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) license.
  • Certificate of secondary education (KCSE) or equivalent.
  • Clean driving record and commitment to road safety practices.
  • Familiarity with Nairobi and key routes throughout Kenya.
  • Basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting knowledge.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time, and follow directives.
  • Professionalism, reliability, punctuality, and trustworthiness.
  • Respect for confidentiality regarding personnel and organizational information.
  • First aid certification or fundamental first aid skills is advantageous.
