The Director, Software Engineering, will lead the engineering group responsible for Transitions of Care. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, this role manages about 50 engineers through 10-11 managers and senior managers, coordinating closely with Product Management to align engineering efforts with business goals.

Location and Travel Expectations

The position offers remote work anywhere in Canada or hybrid work stationed in Mississauga, Ontario. Remote employees must attend periodic in-office events in Mississauga and Salt Lake City, including onboarding and team meetings. Hybrid employees must reside within commuting distance to the Mississauga office and participate regularly in onsite team events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Management to craft and execute product roadmaps balancing innovation, technical investment, operational excellence, and platform strategy.
  • Lead multiple engineering teams into a unified, high-performance organization fostering strong cross-team collaboration.
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies ensuring scalable, secure, and reliable platform solutions aligned with current and future business needs.
  • Drive architectural decisions across core, application, and platform services working closely with architecture and shared services teams.
  • Mentor and develop engineering managers and senior managers to enhance leadership skills and increase organizational capability.
  • Prioritize technical initiatives by articulating business value and aligning them with strategic goals.
  • Lead talent acquisition, workforce planning, and succession planning to build and retain top engineering talent.
  • Work cross-functionally with product, sales, customer success, and executive leaders to deliver complex, large-scale projects.
  • Promote Agile and Kanban methodologies fostering continuous improvement, accountability, and technical excellence.
  • Support the advancement and scaling of AI-driven products and services and contribute to an integrated data ecosystem for innovation.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, including extensive leadership roles within complex technology organizations.
  • Proven success managing large engineering organizations through several management layers.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Strong partnership experience with Product Management and executives to set strategy, prioritize investments, and drive business results.
  • Expertise in establishing software engineering best practices across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated organizational leadership skills, including coaching leaders, driving transformational change, and crafting high-performing teams.
  • Experience delivering cloud-based solutions at scale using Azure, AWS, and/or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Familiarity with modern AI technologies and a preference for candidates who have built and scaled AI-enabled products or platforms.
  • Robust technical architecture background with the ability to evaluate trade-offs and steer strategic decisions.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams including engineering, product, sales, customer success, and executive leadership.
  • Excellent skills in communication, problem-solving, stakeholder management, and organization.
  • A strong sense of ownership, urgency, accountability, and commitment to achieving results.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range in Canada for this role is CAD 211,200 to 234,600 annually, accompanied by bonuses and benefits. Salary is determined based on position, level, skills, experience, and work location.
