Founded by Ilir Sela, inspired by his family’s pizza business, Slice now supports tens of thousands of restaurants with technology and services designed to serve digitally empowered customers and build strong, lasting businesses.
Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Engineering Director to lead our Developer Experience division, overseeing hundreds of engineers engaged in building, testing, deploying, and operating software efficiently and reliably. This leadership role manages multiple teams responsible for our internal developer platform, infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, engineering tools, and cloud platforms. The primary objective is to eliminate barriers in the software development lifecycle, enhance developer productivity, and ensure our platform scales with business growth.
This role requires collaboration with Product, Security, Infrastructure, and Engineering leadership to define technical strategies and investment priorities, delivering platform functions that accelerate team workflows without sacrificing reliability or security. The position balances technical leadership, people management, and organizational influence. Although hands-on coding is not routine, the director provides technical guidance, architectural direction, mentorship to managers and senior engineers, and helps shape the engineering organization's future.
Team Structure
You will lead multiple engineering managers and senior engineers within Developer Experience, covering Kubernetes platforms, CI/CD infrastructure, developer tooling, cloud infrastructure, observability, and productivity improvements. The teams work across North America, the UK, and Eastern Europe in a remote-first setting valuing ownership, collaboration, continuous improvement, and sound decision-making.
Key Qualifications and Competencies
- Demonstrated leadership of multiple engineering teams or managers within rapidly growing tech companies.
- Robust technical expertise in backend systems, cloud infrastructure, or platform engineering with the ability to influence architecture decisions.
- Hands-on experience in building and scaling internal developer platforms and engineering infrastructure teams.
- In-depth knowledge of cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes, AWS, Docker, and advanced CI/CD methodologies.
- Proven capability to establish engineering strategy, set technical direction, and successfully execute complex cross-functional projects.
- A zeal for enhancing developer productivity through automation, standardization, and self-service tooling.
- Strong mentoring skills with a history of developing engineering managers and senior technical personnel.
- Comfortable operating within a globally distributed, remote-first organization.
- Excellent communication skills to influence stakeholders across engineering, product, and executive leadership.
- Data-driven approach to measure engineering effectiveness via metrics like deployment frequency, lead time, reliability, and developer satisfaction.
Additional Benefits
- Comprehensive healthcare coverage options.
- Flexible work hours.
- Generous leave policies.
- Annual employee wellbeing allowance of £200.
- Competitive maternity and paternity benefits.
Recruitment Process
- Initial 30-minute discussion with a recruiter.
- Interviews focused on engineering leadership.
- Technical strategy and systems evaluation.
- Cross-functional leadership interview.
- Final executive-level interview.
- Offer stage.
