Design Manager

Role Overview

As a Design Manager based in Dundalk, you will play a vital role within a multidisciplinary engineering team tasked with advancing water and wastewater infrastructure projects from initial briefs through detailed design and into construction. You will oversee a team of engineers and consultants, driving projects from concepts through to execution, while fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous personal development.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate as part of a unified team to manage multiple projects simultaneously adhering to a "one team" philosophy.
• Incorporate health, safety, environmental, and sustainability standards into all design proposals.
• Engage closely with clients, their representatives, and third parties to maintain strong working relationships and ensure a cooperative client experience.
• Lead the design team and external consultants ensuring comprehensive management of the design scope.
• Establish and monitor design budgets ensuring expenditure aligns with projections.
• Represent the company in design review sessions and safety workshops, ensuring timely follow-up on actions.
• Manage PSDP duties during the design phase, including risk assessments and communication of residual risks to the PSCS.
• Implement best practices in design management by preparing and updating design schedules for each project to meet objectives.
• Monitor and report on project risks and opportunities, applying mitigation strategies where feasible.
• Provide monthly reports to the Framework Manager outlining project progress, milestones, and workshop achievements.
• Prepare detailed costed proposals for design completion and ensure all engineering inputs are factored into overall cost estimates.
• Review and provide feedback on final design documents and contractual materials.
• Develop and mentor team members, establish development plans and actively participate in recruitment and resource management.
• Address client and stakeholder feedback promptly to enhance customer satisfaction.
• Contribute to improving design processes by sharing lessons learned and fostering innovative approaches.
• Stay current with industry standards and emerging technologies through continuous professional development.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

• At least five years’ experience in a similar Design Manager role, preferably within the water and wastewater sector.
• Thorough knowledge of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013, and ideally certified in Designing Safely for Construction and/or PSDP Coordination.
• Experienced in civil and process engineering, covering temporary works, earthworks, tank systems, building works, process units, and mechanical & electrical installations.
• Possess a Level 8 Honours Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Environmental Engineering.
• Able to perform well under pressure and deliver against project targets.
• Proficient at working collaboratively with clients and their teams to develop effective design solutions.
• Competent in project scheduling software such as Microsoft Project to create and update baseline programmes.
• Strong problem-solving capability and the initiative to adapt to challenges during project delivery.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
• Possess excellent communication skills and display high motivation levels.
• Hold a valid full driving license.
