Position Summary
Situated in Dar es-Salaam, this full-time, on-site role entails the responsibility of preparing and submitting customs declarations and associated documents for various shipments crossing sea, road, air, and rail transport modes. Daily functions encompass gathering shipment data, validating invoices and packing details, ensuring precise HS classification and duty/tax calculations, and maintaining compliance with customs regulations. The officer will coordinate regularly with customs officials, port and terminal operators, transport providers, and internal operational teams to resolve any documentation challenges and secure prompt cargo clearance. Additionally, keeping records current, tracking regulatory updates, and providing clients with shipment status and procedural guidance are integral duties.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Comprehensive understanding of customs regulations, HS codes, import/export guidelines, and documentation for multi-modal logistics.
- Proven experience in preparing and submitting customs declarations using appropriate systems and platforms.
- Keen attention to detail in data entry, document accuracy, and calculation of applicable duties and taxes.
- Strong communication and teamwork capabilities for effective interaction with customs officers, clients, and logistics teams.
- Ability to effectively prioritize multiple shipments and manage workloads under pressure in a dynamic logistics setting.
- Competent with basic computer programs such as MS Office; familiarity with freight and clearing software is a plus.
- Prior involvement in clearing, forwarding, or related logistics sectors highly desirable.
- Diploma or degree credentials in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or related fields advantageous.
- Up-to-date knowledge of local and regional trade laws and a commitment to staying informed on regulatory developments.
