Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Database Administrator to join our energetic engineering division. This role requires deep expertise in database management and architecture, focusing on ensuring system reliability and delivering excellent customer experience. The DBA will mentor engineers, participate in key architectural decisions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain secure, scalable, and reliable database environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain internal development and customer-facing SQL databases including SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, and PostgreSQL.
- Design, implement, and oversee cloud database infrastructure across platforms such as Azure, AWS, and GCP.
- Automate routine administrative tasks to enhance operational productivity using scripting languages like PowerShell and Python.
- Analyze, monitor, and tune database performance across extensive database estates.
- Diagnose and resolve database issues efficiently to minimize downtime and impact.
- Work with development teams to architect and implement durable database solutions.
- Serve as the database expert during live customer incident investigations and troubleshooting.
- Enforce data security, privacy, and compliance aligned with applicable regulations and standards.
- Lead and contribute to database-related project initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Over five years of professional experience as a Database Administrator or a comparable role, including at least two years managing cloud databases.
- Strong familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud Platform.
- Hands-on experience with traditional boxed database systems like SQL Server and PostgreSQL and cloud-native databases like Azure SQL Database and Amazon Aurora.
- Proven ability to provide architectural oversight, driving database system performance and scalability improvements.
- Expertise in SQL scripting (T-SQL and PL/pgSQL) and proficiency in PowerShell and Python scripting.
- Knowledge of DataOps methodologies, including version control and CI/CD pipeline implementation for database updates.
- Experience with monitoring and analytics tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and DataDog.
Preferred Skills
- Certifications in database systems (SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) are advantageous.
- Excellent communication abilities to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of cloud database environment security practices and compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases and containerization technologies.
