Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy automation for production releases involving data engineering, machine learning, and business intelligence processes.
- Write robust code and utilize tools to transform data in line with business logic collaboratively defined with Optum's business and technology partners.
- Create, test, maintain, and document scalable Big Data solutions.
- Analyze raw data sources, design data transformations, and structure requirements for new software applications.
- Facilitate migration of data from legacy systems to modern solutions.
- Design conceptual and logical data models and flowcharts to guide data system development.
- Establish data security and backup strategies to safeguard information.
- Build and implement real-time and near-real-time data pipelines.
- Develop prototype data monitoring models for pipelines to ensure reliability and performance.
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation to support solutions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Extensive hands-on experience in data engineering roles.
- Strong expertise with data processing technologies and SQL databases, including advanced SQL skills.
- Experience working with both relational and non-relational database systems.
- Proficient in designing and implementing ETL solutions, data warehousing, data modeling, and applying architectural principles in large-scale environments.
- Familiarity with public cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform; comfortable working in Linux environments.
- Experience with big data platforms like Hadoop, Snowflake, Vertica, Redshift, or Synapse.
- Expertise in Spark and Databricks for data processing and machine learning tasks.
- Experience with Apache Airflow for data pipeline orchestration, including developing custom operators and hooks.
- Skilled in containerization and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker.
- Proficient in Python programming, with additional knowledge of Java, Scala, or similar languages.
- Experience working within Agile and Scrum frameworks.
Additional Valuable Skills
- Development experience on major cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Building OLAP cubes and analytical databases.
- Work experience within data warehouse environments.
- Knowledge of Apache Kafka messaging system.
- Understanding of DevOps tools and methodologies.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
- Knowledge of Kimball and Data Vault data modeling techniques.
- Experience using dbt (Data Build Tool) for data transformation workflows.
