Job description
Position Overview
We are seeking a conscientious Customs Clearance Clerk responsible for managing the complete customs clearance cycle for import and export shipments. The role demands practical experience with customs systems, thorough understanding of GCC customs regulations, and effective communication with freight forwarders, brokers, and government bodies to ensure compliant and timely goods clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit customs declarations and related documentation for imports and exports.
- Execute clearance procedures via Dubai Trade, Mirsal 2, or other applicable emirate customs portals.
- Classify goods accurately using HS codes and correctly compute applicable duties and taxes.
- Maintain communication and coordination with customs authorities, port operators, free zones, and government agencies such as Dubai Customs, Abu Dhabi Customs, and DP World.
- Collaborate with freight forwarders, shipping companies, and internal logistics and warehouse departments.
- Validate shipping documents including Bills of Lading, Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Certificates of Origin, and Letters of Credit.
- Ensure full compliance with customs laws of the UAE, free zone policies, and international trade regulations.
- Manage customs duty exemptions, temporary permits for import/export, and documentation for re-export processes.
- Monitor shipment progress and resolve issues causing clearance delays or documentation discrepancies.
- Maintain precise records for audit purposes and regulatory reporting requirements.
Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum two years of hands-on experience in customs clearance or freight forwarding within the UAE.
- Familiarity with customs software platforms including Dubai Trade and Mirsal 2 or equivalents.
- Strong knowledge of HS Code classification, Incoterms, and customs regulations across the GCC region.
- Understanding of import/export procedures applicable to both free zones and mainland territories.
- Possession of a valid UAE driving license is preferred for site visits and coordination at ports.
- Educational background in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related discipline at bachelor’s or diploma level.
- Proficient in English; knowledge of Arabic and/or Hindi/Urdu is advantageous.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to perform under strict shipment deadlines.
Contract and Compensation
- Contract position with an initial duration of 12 months, extendable based on performance and requirements.
- Location of work is Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
- Monthly salary set at 5000 (currency unspecified).
