About the Role
Embark on a meaningful career by joining Ventia as a Custody Officer, delivering essential custodial services for the Western Australia Department of Justice. This position involves ensuring the safety, dignity, and welfare of individuals in custody while facilitating the effective functioning of the justice system in diverse environments including courts, prisoner transport, and secure medical escorts.
Responsibilities
- Supervisor and secure transportation of individuals in custody.
- Maintain security throughout court hearings.
- Perform welfare assessments to uphold duty of care.
- Handle challenging circumstances calmly and professionally.
- Prepare precise records and reports.
- Collaborate effectively within a supportive operational team.
Required Qualifications and Eligibility
- Commitment to full-time training schedule (Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm).
- Dedication to completing the Certificate III in Correctional Practice within 12 months.
- Australian citizen or permanent resident status.
- A respectful, resilient demeanor with professional conduct.
- Successful completion of pre-employment medical, fitness, and background screenings.
Training and Career Development
- 5 weeks of fully paid comprehensive training before operational duties commence.
- Fully funded Certificate III in Correctional Practice.
- Ongoing paid training and refresher courses throughout employment.
- Structured career advancement opportunities through accredited role classifications and paths to senior, specialist, or supervisory positions.
Compensation and Benefits
- Wage of $27.35 per hour during training.
- Post-training pay rate of $29.50 per hour.
- Increased pay of $30.93 per hour after completing 12 months and the Certificate III qualification.
- Government-endorsed Western Australian State Government Pay Contribution Allowance of $256 per fortnight (pre-tax).
- Guaranteed minimum working hours under the Enterprise Agreement.
- Premium penalty rates for overtime, early or late shifts, weekends (175% on Saturdays and 200% on Sundays).
- Allowances including meal payments for extended shifts or overnight stays, on-call allowances, officer in charge remuneration, paid travel for approved regional assignments, and parking reimbursements.

- Paid breaks with options for time off in lieu (TOIL).
- Five weeks of annual leave granted to shift workers.
