About the Role

Following an internal reorganisation, Booker is seeking three skilled Credit Controllers to join its Retail division. These positions involve overseeing a portfolio of customer accounts within the Retail sector, including Independent Retailers, Multi-Site Retailers, Forecourts, Fascia Branded Retailers, and National Account Groups. The role focuses on managing account balances to ensure payments are collected within established terms. Strong teamwork, communication, and collaboration with various departments are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams such as Branch and Depot staff, Customer Services, Retail Sales, and National Account Sales departments.
  • Foster enduring professional relationships with customers, delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Drive collection activities to maximize cash inflow and reduce overdue, doubtful, or delinquent debts.
  • Manage instances of failed payments by enforcing suspension of trading until payments are secured.
  • Collaborate with the Debt Collection team to recover overdue debts.
  • Address customer and account inquiries promptly to prevent payment delays.
  • Coordinate with the Sales Ledger team for accurate and timely cash allocation.
  • Continuously monitor customer credit limits to mitigate risks and align with business requirements.
  • Compile weekly reports on aged debt, including reasons for any overdue balances.
  • Conduct monthly ledger reviews for Credit Insurance referral purposes.

Candidate Requirements

  • Prior experience in credit control with a solid grasp of credit management, debt recovery, and cash collection processes.
  • Familiarity with SAP is preferred.
  • Strong organisational capabilities to manage diverse tasks and meet deadlines while ensuring accuracy.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure, exhibiting initiative, determination, and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills to build and sustain positive relationships internally and externally.
  • Meticulous attention to financial details, customer accounts, and payment postings.
  • Team-oriented attitude with the capacity to work independently and assist colleagues when necessary.
  • Commercially savvy understanding of cash flow management, credit risk, and account health.
