Community Access Facilitator

About the Role

Join our team in supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities to lead fulfilling lives and realize their dreams. We are looking for Community Access Facilitators to assist persons with disabilities in accessing a diverse range of community services tailored to their unique needs. These roles are available on a part-time basis, including permanent full-time, permanent part-time, evening only fixed-term contracts, and relief posts across Cork City, its suburbs, and West Cork (Bandon, Upton, Innishannon).

Service Overview

Our Day Services provide community-based specialist support to adults with disabilities through collaborative efforts involving individuals, their support circles, carers, and other partners. The services are needs-driven, progressive, and person-centered, promoting equity. Day Services include social, rehabilitative, and life-skills development activities aimed at enhancing choice, independence, and wellbeing. Support includes social and recreational activities, rehabilitative training, health monitoring, and personal care, all tailored to individual goals and preferences to foster community participation, communication, advocacy, and social inclusion. The approach is grounded in a Human Rights Based framework and guided by the New Directions policy, emphasizing person-centered, inclusive, and quality services.

Primary Responsibilities

• Empower individuals to live meaningful lives, build confidence, and pursue personal and career goals.
• Assist adults with disabilities in maintaining valued social roles like student, employee, volunteer, or friend, fostering equal citizenship recognition.
• Collaborate with individuals, their support networks, and multidisciplinary teams using a person-centered approach aligned with New Directions values.
• Deliver support within the New Directions framework, embracing principles of participation, accountability, non-discrimination, empowerment, legality, and outcome-focused individualized services.
• Encourage participation and co-production in planning and delivering Day Services to ensure individuals shape policies affecting them.
• Advocate for individual and service-level decision-making, addressing inclusion barriers and promoting structural change where necessary.
• Respect dignity and autonomy in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and equality laws.
• Support both group and individual activities in community settings, promoting equal access to mainstream community, educational, work, leisure, and civic opportunities.
• Promote positive risk-taking by supporting individuals to make independent decisions and learn from experiences.

Candidate Requirements

• Possess a minimum QQI Level 5 qualification in General Health and Social Care, Community and/or Youth Work, or an equivalent healthcare qualification recognized nationally or from another jurisdiction.
• Preferably have at least six months' experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and challenging behaviours.
• Be computer proficient, including Microsoft Office and information systems usage.
• Having skills or interest in arts, crafts, pottery, horticulture, gardening, alternative therapies, music, or sports is highly advantageous.
• Availability for afternoon, evening, and occasional weekend work.
• Hold a full driving licence valid for manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads, as driving is required.

Compensation and Additional Information

The salary ranges from €36,291 to €52,406 annually, based on the HSE Consolidated Scales (Supervisor/Instructor Specialist Agencies Salary Scale effective 1/6/26). Part-time roles will receive pro-rated pay in relation to full-time positions.
