Job description
Company Overview
Advance Transmissions is a precision manufacturing company based in Bengaluru, focusing on precision transmission components, custom mechanical parts, gears, and hydraulic products. The company utilises advanced CNC, VMC, and gear cutting technology and adheres to ISO-certified quality standards. It supports employees with a structured 9-level career progression framework, emphasizing growth and development within the manufacturing domain.
Position Summary
The CNC Operator 2 role is an intermediate-level position within the production department, specifically in the CNC section. This full-time, shift-based role requires hands-on operation of CNC machines to handle standard and moderately complex machining tasks. The operator will carry out tool offset settings, minor program edits within defined boundaries, and conduct first-piece and ongoing inspections. Additionally, there is an expectation to mentor junior operators during the shifts.
Primary Duties
- Operate CNC machines independently, achieving daily shift production targets for standard and medium complexity jobs.
- Set tool offsets and make minor adjustments to CNC programs under guidance.
- Perform tool changes, monitor tool wear, and select suitable tools for operations.
- Use precision measuring instruments like Vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and height gauges to conduct initial and in-process inspections; accurately document all measurements.
- Track size deviations during production and apply corrective offsets within permissible limits.
- Identify and segregate questionable parts or batches for quality control review, ensuring no defective items pass through.
- Conduct routine maintenance such as checking oil, coolant, and air supply; uphold 5S workplace organization and cleanliness standards.
- Provide guidance and support to junior CNC Operator 1 staff in machine loading, safety protocols, and basic operational checks.
- Maintain detailed production logs and quality documentation during each shift.
Qualifications & Skills Required
- Educational background: ITI certification in Machinist or Turner trade, or a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience operating CNC machines.
- Ability to interpret engineering blueprints and basic geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
- Competency in performing basic CNC program edits and tool offset corrections.
- Skilled in using measuring devices such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and height gauges.
- Preferably familiar with Fanuc or Siemens CNC controls.
- Basic understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC), quality record-keeping, and routine machine maintenance is advantageous.
Career Development
This role offers a clearly defined advancement path to higher CNC operator levels, including progression to CNC Operator 3, which involves full programming and handling complex setups, eventually leading to roles like Setter or Programmer. The company provides training, a skill matrix, individual development plans, and periodic performance assessments to support employee growth.
Organizational Reporting
The CNC Operator 2 reports directly to the CNC Setter or Shift In-charge and oversees the junior CNC Operator 1 personnel, collaborating closely with senior operators, quality engineers, maintenance teams, and tooling stores.
Compensation & Work Details
Salary in line with industry benchmarks; monthly range approximately INR 18,000 to 25,000. Position requires onsite presence at the HMT Industrial Estate, Bengaluru, Karnataka, and involves shift work.
