Clinical Quality Advisor

Position Overview

Whānau Āwhina Plunket invites applications for a Clinical Quality Advisor to join its Clinical Quality team on a full-time, permanent basis. The role is primarily remote with a requirement for quarterly travel to the Wellington head office. The advisor will play a crucial role in ensuring high standards of clinical care across all services by leading investigations, managing clinical governance, and driving improvements based on findings.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct sentinel-event investigations and clinical case reviews.
• Detect clinical risks, analyze trends, and identify opportunities for enhancement.
• Review, revise, and maintain clinical policies, procedures, protocols, and manuals.
• Support clinical and operational leaders, as well as staff, in implementing practice modifications.
• Prepare clinical quality reports and analyze relevant indicators.
• Collaborate with the Education team to address professional development needs.
• Evaluate portfolios for the Professional Development Recognition Programme.
• Cultivate strong relationships across clinical and service delivery teams.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a registered nurse with at least three years of clinical leadership experience and a robust grasp of clinical quality, risk management, and professional nursing practice. They should possess the ability to handle complex and sensitive clinical issues with a balanced, evidence-based approach and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Current Annual Practising Certificate from the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in clinical leadership roles.
• Comprehensive knowledge of nursing practice, cultural competence, and family partnership principles.
• Experience in clinical quality, risk management, or continuous improvement initiatives.
• Skills in data analysis, identifying themes, and formulating actionable recommendations.
• Proven ability to coach and influence to enhance quality practice.
• Capability to develop trusted relationships and effectively manage change.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Ao Māori, and their real-world application in clinical settings.

Preferred qualifications include a Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Health Care Specialty Nursing Well Child/Tamariki Ora and an appropriate Professional Development Recognition Programme level for nurses in practice leadership roles.
