Job description

Position Overview

The Cashier role at our bank branches is pivotal for handling all cash-related transactions and operations in line with internal and external banking protocols, ensuring accurate record-keeping and end-of-day reconciliation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure efficient branch operations through precise and timely processing of cash transactions and account management.
  • Manage the branch's cash handling including receipt and processing of cheques, drafts, pay orders, dividend warrants, and similar instruments within authorized limits, issuing counterfoils as receipts.
  • Handle cash disbursement for withdrawal requests and collection against deposit challans.
  • Collect EMI repayments, maintaining corresponding records in the system.
  • Maintain registers such as inward and outward registers, petty cash, assets, and send requisitions to Regional Head Office as required.
  • Perform daily cash tallying against transaction books and vouchers, and report findings through the End of Day Branch report.
  • Be jointly responsible, along with the operations officer, for cash and vault operations and maintenance.
  • Engage with customers during deposit and withdrawal processes to understand needs, identify cross-selling opportunities, and inform them about new products and services.
  • Provide exemplary customer service by addressing inquiries courteously and efficiently, escalating unresolved issues appropriately.
  • Explain payment schedules and contact information to customers during disbursements.
  • Educate customers on alternative channels for deposits, withdrawals, and inquiries.
  • Count and verify cash at the start and end of each day prior to vaulting.
  • Secure branch cash, keys, and valuables responsibly in collaboration with the assistant branch manager, ensuring smooth operation of the cash department.
  • Adhere strictly to turnaround time standards for transactions.
  • Comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and bank policies related to cashier operations and cash management.
  • Validate customer authenticity during cash withdrawals.
  • Ensure accuracy of cash deposit slips and update bank passbooks when necessary.
  • Prepare cash bundles for deposits to currency chests with correct documentation.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of bank products, services, relevant regulations, and KYC principles.
  • Participate and complete mandatory training and certification programs organized by the operations department.
  • Engage actively in performance reviews and goal-setting activities within designated timelines.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate degree in any discipline; preference for Finance or Commerce background.
  • At least 1-2 years experience managing high-volume cash transactions.
  • Familiarity with financial modules or ERP software, capable of consolidating accounting data.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong cash handling and accounting capabilities including counterfeit detection.
  • Systematic and detailed customer service approach focused on minimizing wait times.
  • Proficient computer skills with willingness to receive on-the-job software training.
  • Excellent numerical abilities and capacity for multitasking.
  • Positive interpersonal communication skills emphasizing customer service orientation.
  • Competence in execution, relationship management, and customer focus.

Collaborations

  • Internal coordination with regional operations and finance control units, and service quality executives.
  • External liaison with neighboring banks, cash management agencies, and business correspondence agents.

Administrative Details

Reports directly to Branch Operation Officer. Position Grade AM-II in Branch Banking Department. This is a full-time role based onsite at the branch.
