GitLab is a smart orchestration platform designed specifically for DevSecOps, empowering organizations worldwide to boost developer productivity, increase operational efficiency, mitigate security and compliance risks, and expedite digital transformation. Trusted by over 50 million registered users and more than half of the Fortune 100 companies, GitLab delivers superior, secure software development at a rapid pace.

Our team embodies the same innovative principles as our products, embracing artificial intelligence to enhance daily workflows and foster innovation. GitLab promotes a high-performance culture rooted in core values and continual knowledge sharing, driving our members to reach their full potential while collaborating with industry leaders on complex challenges. Join us in co-creating future technologies that revolutionize software development globally.

Role Overview

This fully remote role is open for candidates based in the UK, Ireland, Germany, or the Netherlands. GitLab is seeking a motivated and strategic Business Development Representative (BDR) to expand our Sales team. You will spearhead initial outreach efforts to select accounts, coordinating closely with Field Sales, Digital Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success departments. Leveraging inventive marketing and sales strategies, you will engage diverse buyer personas to introduce GitLab's AI-driven DevSecOps solution and generate qualified meetings that build a robust sales pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct proactive outbound prospecting campaigns to create qualified meetings and sales pipeline within your designated territory.
  • Identify and secure new logo opportunities as well as growth possibilities within existing customer accounts.
  • Lead thorough discovery conversations to assess client needs, qualify opportunities, and create Sales Accepted Opportunities (SAOs).
  • Consistently meet or surpass monthly and quarterly BDR-generated SAO targets by effectively converting prospects.
  • Utilize industry and business insights to research and prioritize target accounts, crafting personalized outreach plans.
  • Execute multi-channel outreach sequences—including calls, emails, and social platforms—using Outreach tools for maximum engagement.
  • Maintain accurate tracking and reporting of all prospecting activities and pipeline progress in Salesforce for transparent performance monitoring.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing and sales teams to develop targeted account lists, campaigns, and calling strategies; participate in regional marketing events to generate leads and qualified opportunities.
  • Document and refine BDR processes within the GitLab handbook, partnering with your manager, and provide mentorship to new hires to accelerate their onboarding.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Fluent proficiency in German is mandatory.
  • Previous experience in outbound sales development within the technology sector is required.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including positive and engaging phone presence, attentive listening, and strong writing abilities.
  • Able to prioritize tasks effectively, manage a high volume of outreach, and maintain consistent follow-through on prospecting activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently initiate projects, persist through obstacles, and drive results.
  • Alignment with GitLab's core values and operational standards.
  • Understanding of business processes, roles, and organizational structures.
  • Proficient using Salesforce, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Outreach, or similar sales prospecting and sequencing tools.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for training, team gatherings, client meetings, and events.
  • Proficiency in English to facilitate effective communication in our company environment.

Team Environment

BDRs are integral members of GitLab's expanding Sales team, working closely with marketing and customer success divisions. Our inclusive onboarding and training programs equip you with essential DevOps and GitLab platform knowledge. Collaboration occurs remotely across various time zones through asynchronous communication and shared resources. This role lays a clear path for career advancement to Account Executive positions within the company.

Employee Benefits and Culture

  • Comprehensive offerings supporting health, financial wellness, and overall well-being.
  • Flexible Paid Time Off policies.
  • Access to Team Member Resource Groups for community and support.
  • Equity compensation plans and an Employee Stock Purchase Program.
  • Growth and Development Fund to support continuous learning.
  • Parental leave provisions.
