Trusted by over 50 million users and more than half of the Fortune 100 companies, GitLab empowers teams to deliver secure software rapidly.
Our company culture embraces AI as a core productivity enhancer, expecting all team members to incorporate AI into their daily duties for improved innovation and impact. At GitLab, we foster a high-performing environment driven by shared values and continuous learning, where every voice is respected and careers thrive alongside industry leaders.
Position Overview
The Business Development Representative (BDR) role is fully remote and open for candidates based in the UK, Ireland, Germany, or the Netherlands. As a BDR, you will spearhead initial outreach to target accounts in partnership with Field, Digital Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success teams. You will use innovative marketing and sales strategies to engage multiple buyer personas, introducing GitLab's AI-powered DevSecOps platform and generating qualified meetings and sales pipeline opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement outbound prospecting efforts to secure qualified meetings and build pipeline within your designated territory.
- Identify new business opportunities and support growth in existing customer accounts.
- Conduct preliminary discovery calls with prospective clients to evaluate needs, qualify leads, and develop Sales Accepted Opportunities (SAOs).
- Consistently achieve or surpass monthly and quarterly BDR-sourced SAO targets across various qualification stages.
- Research and prioritize target accounts by analyzing industry trends and identifying key decision-makers and relevant trigger events.
- Deploy a multi-channel outreach strategy—including phone, email, and social media—leveraging tools like Outreach to optimize engagement and conversions.
- Maintain accurate records of prospecting activities and pipeline status within Salesforce for transparent performance tracking and forecasting.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing and sales teams to build targeted account lists, design campaigns, and develop call plans; participate in regional events to drive lead generation.
- Document and refine BDR processes within the GitLab handbook and mentor new BDR team members for effective ramp-up.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Fluency in German is essential.
- Previous experience in outbound sales development within the technology sector is required.
- Excellent communication skills, including positive and energetic telephone etiquette, strong listening capabilities, and proficient writing ability.
- Capability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage a large volume of outreach efforts, and persistently follow through with prospecting activities.
- Demonstrated initiative and resilience in independently driving projects to completion despite challenges.
- Alignment with GitLab’s values, working ethically and cohesively within the team environment.
- Solid understanding of business processes, organizational roles, and corporate structures.
- Proficient use of Salesforce, Sales Navigator, Outreach, or equivalent prospecting and sequencing platforms.
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally for trainings, team offsites, and meetings with customers.
- Fluency in English, GitLab's corporate language, for efficient internal communication.
Team Environment
The BDR role is integral to GitLab’s expanding sales force, collaborating remotely with multiple teams including Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success across different time zones using asynchronous communication tools such as video calls and shared playbooks. This position offers a transparent career path, with opportunities to advance into Account Executive roles.
Employee Benefits
- Comprehensive benefits supporting health, financial security, and overall well-being.
- Flexible Paid Time Off policy.
- Participation in Team Member Resource Groups.
- Equity ownership through stock options and an employee stock purchase program.
- Access to a Growth and Development Fund for professional advancement.
- Generous parental leave provisions.
