About the Role
Join the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) as a Bond Advisor in Porirua, Wellington, on a secondment or fixed-term basis until 30 June 2027. In this position, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, compliance, and customer satisfaction within New Zealand's tenancy bond framework. You will be part of a newly formed team responsible for the Business Owner function of the Tenancy Bond system, aiding MBIE's Building and Tenancy division in fulfilling regulatory and system stewardship duties. This role demands collaboration, proactive management of official requests, and the identification of risks and opportunities related to tenancy bond system enhancements. Salary ranges from $75,114 to $88,266, with added KiwiSaver and wellness benefits.
Responsibilities
- Strengthen the trustworthiness and compliance of New Zealand’s tenancy bond services to improve customer experience.
- Collaborate effectively with multiple teams to enhance practices, manage changes, and drive improved outcomes.
- Support timely responses to Official Information Act requests, complaints, Ministerial inquiries, and customer feedback.
- Monitor and manage the shared inbox, assess incoming requests, escalate when necessary, and collect data to generate informed advice.
- Assist the Director of Business Systems and Change in pinpointing risks, setting priorities, and managing enhancement backlogs by utilizing various reports and insights.

- Demonstrated strong relationship management and communication abilities to establish trust with both internal and external partners.
- Flexibility to work in a dynamic environment, helping establish and solidify a newly developed function while building stakeholder confidence.
- Proven sound judgment, integrity, and capability to handle sensitive and confidential matters.
- Quick comprehension of complex or unfamiliar issues with the ability to translate information into clear advice or actions.
- Robust analytical skills for evaluating data, customer feedback, and potential risks or opportunities to support decision-making.
- Effective skills in planning, prioritizing, problem-solving, and meticulous attention to detail in a fast-paced setting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence diverse audiences.
- Experience working with process documentation, methodologies, and case management systems.
- Adaptability and initiative to contribute to the growth and embedding of a new operational function.
- Knowledge of tenancy regulatory frameworks and tenancy law is considered advantageous.
- Legal eligibility to reside and work in New Zealand is mandatory.
