Role Overview
As a Billing Coordinator, you will be pivotal in managing accurate charge and payment postings, resolving denials, and following up on accounts receivable to maintain robust financial health and ensure timely reimbursements.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately process and submit claims for professional and surgical services.
- Post payments and adjustments, addressing discrepancies as they arise.
- Proactively follow up on unpaid, underpaid, and denied claims across all aging periods.
- Review explanations of benefits and payer feedback to determine subsequent actions.
- Keep precise and organized documentation in the billing systems.
- Refer complex cases to Team Lead when necessary.
- Adhere to payer requirements, client policies, and internal procedures.
- Analyze billed services to confirm compliance with coding and reimbursement standards.
- Apply modifiers correctly, identify CPT/NCCI issues, understand reimbursement effects, and suggest claim corrections, leveraging coding knowledge (coding from operative notes not needed).
- Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA and patient privacy regulations.
- Undertake additional tasks to support revenue cycle functions as required.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in medical billing, with strong preference for professional and surgical billing expertise.
- Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, modifiers, and payer-specific rules.
- Understanding of global periods and surgical billing concepts.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
- Effective communication capabilities.
- Experience working with Electronic Health Records (EHR), Practice Management (PM) systems, and clearinghouses.
- Reliable computer and high-speed internet necessary for efficient remote work.
- Experience in Plastic Surgery and/or Dermatology billing is advantageous.
