Role Overview

This position offers the opportunity to lead technical initiatives by defining and designing system architecture, quickly building prototypes, and collaborating closely with Product teams and clients. Responsibilities include coding and spearheading delivery of backend service features, API development, data processing, and automation.

You'll primarily develop and engineer backend services and associated web tools within the 9fin platform. Acting as an individual contributor, you’ll perform code reviews, mentor junior developers, contribute to early-stage research on emerging technologies, and recommend enhancements.

The codebase offers opportunities for continuous improvement through refactoring, automation, and improved documentation.

Technology Stack

• Primary backend language: Python
• Frameworks: Flask and FastAPI
• Type annotations for automated documentation and API definitions
• Relational databases mainly using PostgreSQL
• Cloud hosting on AWS with extensive use of Lambda serverless functions
• Containerization via Docker using AWS ECS for consistent environments

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical projects, designing system components and implementing agile solutions
• Develop backend services, APIs, data routing, and workflow automation
• Collaborate closely with product teams and clients to align engineering efforts with user needs
• Review code and mentor less-experienced developers
• Provide input on new product features through research and experimentation with new technologies
• Maintain high code quality standards through testing, documentation, and refactoring
• Work within diverse cross-functional teams including financial, legal, and editorial experts to ensure quality and accuracy
• Utilize automated environments and feature flags to speed up development cycles and feedback

Candidate Profile

• Ability to strategically plan software that fits within broader systems and business context
• Understanding of data flows from storage through APIs
• Proficiency with Python and experience using web frameworks like Flask and FastAPI with type annotations
• Demonstrated experience designing and delivering APIs and service-oriented architectures
• Solid SQL skills for data retrieval from relational databases
• Excellent communication skills to work effectively in cross-functional teams
• Commitment to code quality with an emphasis on testable and maintainable practices
