About the Role
Join a leading financial services firm investing significantly in Data & AI capabilities as a Backend Engineer. You'll be part of a growing Data Science function, playing a key role in scaling AI, analytics, and data products across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate directly with Data Scientists, BI teams, and business stakeholders to design and develop production-quality backend services. Build and maintain Model Context Protocol (MCP) infrastructure and APIs that expose data science outputs effectively, enabling other teams to create innovative products and experiences. While the role includes full stack responsibilities, the primary focus is on backend and platform development, with occasional front-end prototyping to validate solutions.
Required Skills and Expertise
- Proficient in Python software engineering.
- Hands-on experience developing with FastAPI and/or Flask frameworks.
- Solid knowledge of API design principles including REST and GraphQL.
- Experience in building, versioning, documenting, and securing APIs.
- Commercial experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers.
- Proven track record of delivering scalable, production-grade backend services.
- Familiarity with Databricks or comparable cloud-based data platforms.
- Understanding of authentication mechanisms, service architecture, and integration design patterns.
- Ability to create simple front-end prototypes as needed.
- Strong commitment to code quality with experience reviewing code and mentoring team members.
- Ability to work closely with Data Scientists to translate analytical outputs into robust services.
