Role Overview

This role represents the initial managerial level within the R&D leadership hierarchy focused on biomechanics and mechanical testing. The Associate Manager leads professionals and manages multiple projects throughout the product design and development lifecycle, as well as oversees legacy product care and continuous improvement initiatives. This position demands both technical expertise and leadership acumen, serving as an expert in specific domains and fostering team growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of professionals, guiding their career progression and performance.
  • Manage several projects related to new product development, addressing design challenges, maintenance, or product enhancement.
  • Ensure adherence to project plans, timelines, and Design Control compliance.
  • Serve as subject matter expert and process owner within areas of competency.
  • Collaborate with clinical advisors to incorporate insights into product design and evaluation.
  • Oversee design verification and validation activities, utilizing internal and external resources for testing, simulation, and engineering assessments.
  • Maintain and optimize lab facilities and equipment, coordinating with other laboratory sites.
  • Function as a liaison between R&D and global quality and operations teams for product supply-related projects.
  • Write technical reports and assessments to document project findings and conclusions.
  • Utilize thorough understanding of surgical procedures to innovate and meet customer requirements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key design consultancy groups to anticipate trends and user needs.
  • Mentor team members on industry best practices, technological trends, and skills development.
  • Serve as an independent reviewer of technical documents and processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

  • Plan, budget, and staff projects to meet business objectives successfully.
  • Support cross-functional efforts to innovate and drive business goals.
  • Manage cost center budgets, projections, and financial accountability within the direct team.
  • Engage in customer-centric design activities, aligning with stakeholders internally and externally.

Regulatory and Compliance Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements for projects or programs.
  • Model adherence to procedures and design controls for others.
  • Review and approve technical documentation and deliverables relevant to projects or programs.
  • Fulfill additional regulatory responsibilities as assigned by local management.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical discipline is required.
  • At least six years of relevant experience, with people management experience preferred but not mandatory.
  • Alternate qualifications such as Industrial Design may be considered based on role specifics.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Strong technical expertise in one or more functional disciplines with an ability to mentor others.
  • Proven leadership skills including performance coaching, providing actionable feedback, and performance management.
  • Basic knowledge of the healthcare marketplace and competitors.
  • Experience managing talent and performance strategies.
  • Ability to clearly communicate plans and technical concepts within a business unit.
  • Track record of delivering projects on schedule, on budget, and with high quality.

Compensation Information

In Ireland, salary ranges for this role are between €72,000 and €121,000 annually. Compensation may also include performance-based incentives such as bonuses or commissions, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
