Associate Director, Building Surveying - Exeter

Overview

Gleeds is seeking a chartered building surveyor to join their expanding Built Asset Solutions team in Exeter. This permanent, full-time role offers hybrid working and presents an excellent chance to lead local building surveying activities across Devon, Cornwall, and Somerset as part of a rapidly growing multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a variety of building surveying projects involving refurbishment, fit-out, component replacement, and exterior decoration.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships and identify new business opportunities to expand the service locally.
• Manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring high-quality delivery, commercial success, and client satisfaction.
• Collaborate with Exeter colleagues in cost and project management and bring together specialists across Gleeds to optimize results.
• Conduct professional inspections, surveys, and technical assessments including building pathology, defect identification, dilapidations, party wall matters, and due diligence.
• Mentor and develop team members to foster a collaborative environment conducive to professional growth.
• Contribute innovative ideas to evolve the building consultancy service for future demands.

Candidate Profile

• Extensive post-MRICS experience in building surveying with the capacity to lead client instructions and project delivery.
• Strong commercial acumen with a proactive approach to identifying and expanding service opportunities.
• Effective collaborator capable of working across multidisciplinary teams.
• Practical, client-driven decision-making skills and sound judgment.
• Leadership qualities including mentoring and team development experience.
• Ambition to play a senior role in supporting growth within the Exeter team and broader Built Asset Solutions offering.

Qualifications & Skills

• MRICS membership is essential.
• In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, procurement strategies, and contract administration.
• Clear understanding of legislation affecting building contracts and contract management roles.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Competency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Financial management, negotiation, problem-solving, and organizational capabilities.
