About the Role
St. George’s University seeks a dedicated Assistant Manager for its Housekeeping Department responsible for supporting the oversight and coordination of custodial activities across campus. This position plays a vital role in ensuring a clean, secure, and well-maintained environment for the entire university community including students, faculty, and visitors. The role emphasizes operational efficiency, adherence to quality standards, and compliance with safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in organizing and supervising daily housekeeping functions across academic spaces, residence halls, offices, and communal areas.
- Lead and mentor a team of housekeeping personnel by providing coaching, direction, and performance assessments.
- Create team schedules and allocate duties to maintain continuous and efficient cleaning operations.
- Perform frequent inspections of facilities to verify cleaning quality and compliance with safety protocols.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and training of housekeeping staff.
- Keep precise records related to attendance, training sessions, facility inspections, and inventory usage.
- Manage cleaning supplies and equipment inventory, coordinate procurement activities, and liaise with suppliers.
- Address service requests and resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally.
- Ensure all operations adhere to university policies, OSHA, and other safety standards.
- Work collaboratively with other departments for special projects and institutional events.
- Provide leadership support by covering for the Housekeeping Manager when required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Associate’s degree or equivalent qualification mandatory, preferably in Facilities Management or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in housekeeping or custodial roles, including at least 1 to 2 years in a supervisory capacity; prior experience within academic or institutional environments is highly desirable.
Skills & Competencies
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and OSHA safety guidelines.
- Strong organizational and time-management aptitude.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with work order or facilities management software.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently in a dynamic setting.
- Professional attitude with a firm commitment to service excellence.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Job duties occur both in office settings and across the campus, including classrooms, residence halls, and administrative buildings.
- Requires regular standing, walking, and facility inspections.
- Occasional evening, weekend, or holiday shifts may be necessary during peak periods or emergencies.
- Physical ability to lift and move weights up to 50 lbs is sometimes required.
