Job description
About the Role
Oranga Tamariki is offering permanent Allied Support Worker positions aimed at enhancing team support and strengthening workforce stability. These roles primarily assist frontline Social Work teams by handling operational tasks, thereby enabling Social Workers to focus on statutory responsibilities and professional duties.
This position is non-regulated and is distinct from a Social Worker or para-social worker, meaning it does not include case management or social work activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide flexible support across the site based on daily team demands.
- Assist Social Workers with inputting case notes and other data into the CYRAS case management system and other platforms.
- Transport tamariki and rangatahi safely to destinations such as appointments, schools, and sports events.
- Support setup and administrative duties related to Family Group Conferences (FGCs).
- Assist in caring for tamariki and rangatahi during out-of-school times or while awaiting placements.
- Handle administrative arrangements for tamariki transitioning into placements or programs.
- Facilitate tamariki and rangatahi’s integration or reintegration into school environments.
- Supervise access and visitation sessions, including client transportation, supervision, and documentation; may include weekend and after-hours work.
- Foster cooperative relationships with internal teams and external partners.
Required Experience and Skills
- Experience in community support roles or assisting individuals in need.
- Familiarity with Māori and/or Pasifika cultural practices and contexts.
- Ability to handle emotional and sensitive situations with empathy.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
- Capability to collaborate effectively with peers and stakeholders.
- Maintain professionalism and composure in emotionally challenging environments.
- Respect and understanding for tikanga Māori, Pacific peoples' culture, and knowledge of Te Tiriti ō Waitangi principles.
- Competence in handling confidential information responsibly.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Qualifications and Licensing
- Possession of a recognized Social Services qualification is preferred but not mandatory.
- A clean, current full driver’s license is essential along with readiness to drive Ministry vehicles; historic convictions will be assessed individually.

This role is classified as safety-critical and demands high reliability, sound judgment, and emotional resilience. The remuneration package ranges from $68,371 to $75,501.
