Job description

Position Overview

The role involves overseeing and directing air traffic within the UAE Flight Information Region (FIR), ensuring safety and efficiency. This includes managing traffic flow to prevent congestion, handling high-pressure scenarios including emergencies, and liaising clearly with pilots and external agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and control air traffic safely within UAE FIR boundaries.
  • Regulate air traffic flow to avoid congestion both inside and beyond UAE FIR.
  • Effectively manage stressful, high workload situations and unexpected events.
  • Issue clear and concise instructions to pilots for traffic management and control.
  • Coordinate promptly with external bodies when necessary.
  • Report any system failures or unsafe conditions that may impact safety or operations; notify the ATC Watch Supervisor about incidents and abnormal activities.
  • Participate occasionally in simulation drills, procedural development, airspace redesign, testing and commissioning of new or enhanced ATC systems.
  • Perform duties aligned with Air Navigation Services (ANS) standards.
  • Maintain proficiency through regular competency exams covering theoretical knowledge and practical skills as required by GCAA.
  • Possess comprehensive understanding of ICAO documents especially Annex 2, Annex 11, Doc 4444, Doc 7030, UAE AIP, and Local ATS Instructions for Emirates ACC.
  • Stay informed about operational equipment and systems used in UAE FIR services.
  • Acquire situational awareness every shift via briefings on internal and external factors affecting traffic.
  • Train trainee air traffic controllers and cadets when qualified; submit progress reports and discuss these with trainees and management.
  • Prepare timely and accurate reports that comply with GCAA quality standards.
  • Adhere to health, safety, and environmental procedures ensuring legislative compliance, safety, quality, and environmental responsibility as per Integrated Management System (IMS) standards.
  • Carry out additional tasks relevant to the role as assigned by management.

Job Context

The controller regularly handles complex and heavy traffic situations, keeping up-to-date with all airspace rules and regulations to manage traffic flow safely and effectively within UAE ACC responsibility. Strict annual standards checks and competency tests maintain professional quality and compliance.

Authority and Reporting

  • Reports administratively to the Senior Specialist of Air Traffic Operations.
  • Decision-making power is confined to operational duties, with all other matters referred to the Senior Air Traffic Control Specialist (SATCS).

Mandatory Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of a valid Area and/or Approach Radar Control License issued by an ICAO-recognized state or organization accepted by the GCAA as per civil aviation regulations.
  • A valid Air Traffic Control medical certificate.
  • ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 4 or higher.

Compensation

The monthly salary for this position is 57,000 AED.
