Job Overview

Working under the guidance of the General Manager, the Barista independently manages various tasks essential for smooth café operations, adhering to laid down service standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently responsible for most of the shift, with occasional assistance when necessary.
• Operate café equipment to prepare coffee, specialty beverages, bottled drinks, and baked or ready-to-eat items.
• Ensure the café environment complies with local, state, and federal sanitation standards through consistent cleaning.
• Carry out daily and weekly cleaning routines involving food prep surfaces, machines, utensils, and customer areas.
• Maintain organized and tidy merchandise displays per company policies to create an appealing shopping atmosphere.
• Welcome customers entering the store and café, providing excellent service at each transaction.
• Actively promote point-of-sale initiatives and company programs such as discount cards, magazine sales, pre-sale vouchers, and donation drives.
• Accurately balance cash register drawer at shift end, adhering to Loss Prevention Policy guidelines.
• Provide assistance to bookstore staff as needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Ability to manage self effectively with minimal supervision.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Successful passing of all mandatory background checks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
• Competence in handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Proficiency in operating various café equipment including blenders, ovens, and espresso machines.
• Experience using computers and cash registers.

Physical & Environmental Considerations

• Ability to stand and walk for extended durations.
• Dexterity to operate keyboard, telephone, and perform repetitive hand motions.
• Capability to lift or assist in lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Effective communication through speech, sight, and hearing, with or without assistive devices.
• Physical agility to stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, or crouch as required during the workday.
