Overview

This remote opportunity in Saudi Arabia invites a skilled Technical Writer to join a distributed open-source team focused on PostgreSQL and related database technologies. The role involves crafting clear, precise, and user-centric documentation for various stages of the product lifecycle. Collaboration with engineers, product managers, QA specialists, and other technical writers is essential to transform complex technical concepts into practical documentation accessible to diverse users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and update thorough technical documentation such as installation/configuration manuals, troubleshooting guides, user manuals, help prompts, and release notes.
  • Work in close partnership with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, developers, QA teams, and peers to deliver accurate and timely technical content.
  • Translate sophisticated PostgreSQL and database concepts into readable and comprehensible materials for audiences with varying technical expertise.
  • Utilize tools like Markdown, images, and diagrams for creating engaging documentation.
  • Adopt a docs-as-code approach, maintaining documentation via version control and fostering scalable documentation workflows.
  • Employ AI-enhanced tools to draft, edit, format, and upgrade content while preserving accuracy.
  • Participate in team meetings, technical discussions, and planning activities.
  • Contribute to the evolution of documentation strategies, processes, and quality standards.
  • Engage with open-source communities through forums, mailing lists, and other communication channels to share knowledge and collect insights.
  • Research emerging technologies and contribute upstream documentation, technical blogs, or other community knowledge-sharing efforts.
  • Assist in developing automated documentation testing, validation, and CI/CD pipelines where relevant.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years professional experience as a Technical Writer producing detailed, high-quality technical documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills capable of clearly communicating complex technical details.
  • Experience creating end-user documentation on intricate software systems targeting technical audiences.
  • Proficiency with markup languages, especially Markdown.
  • Practical experience installing and configuring database servers on Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with docs-as-code tools and methodologies including Git, Jenkins, HTML, JavaScript.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools for documentation workflow enhancement.
  • Comfortable with Linux command line and developer tools such as Git, GCC, and GDB.
  • Understanding of distributed systems and database server development principles.
  • Ability to independently prioritize work within a globally distributed team.
  • Strong collaboration skills and experience communicating through Slack, Jira, Notion, Zoom, mailing lists, and community forums.
  • Self-driven learner with problem-solving skills and a positive approach to distributed teamwork.
  • Developer or DevOps experience is highly beneficial.
  • Contributions to PostgreSQL or other open-source projects, or involvement in PostgreSQL communities, are a significant advantage.
  • Comprehensive understanding of PostgreSQL internals and advanced database topics such as storage engines, encryption at rest, and cloud orchestration is highly desirable.
  • Experience with documentation automation, CI/CD pipelines, or validation tools is an asset.
  • Public speaking, technical blogging, or active participation in technical forums or mailing lists adds value.
  • Preference for candidates comfortable working remotely from Poland, aligning roughly ±4 hours with the team’s UTC-2 median timezone.
