About Grafana Labs

Grafana Labs operates Grafana Cloud, a comprehensive managed observability platform trusted by over 10,000 organizations globally to enhance reliability, accelerate incident resolution, and optimize telemetry at scale. Built on open-source principles and designed for compatibility across diverse technology stacks, Grafana Cloud integrates AI and observability, offering unified insights into disparate data sources. Our clientele includes notable companies such as Anthropic, Bloomberg, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Salesforce.

We are a fully remote company with team members located in more than 40 countries, supported by prominent investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital, and others. Our culture emphasizes transparency, autonomy, trust, and meaningful work within a globally collaborative environment.

Role Overview

This remote role is open to candidates based specifically in the UK, Spain, and Ireland. The position involves contributing to the Foundations group's Internal Engineering Platform, focusing on the creation of a new "Metal" squad responsible for provisioning physical hardware resources such as storage, networking, and Kubernetes clusters outside of public cloud infrastructures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the management of physical infrastructure from bare metal servers to Kubernetes clusters.
  • Handling cluster networking including load balancing, NAT, DNS, CNIs, cross-cluster communications, routing protocols, and overall network architecture.
  • Managing scheduling and autoscaling mechanisms within the clusters.
  • Maintaining and managing Crossplane compositions and Terraform modules for cloud service provider resources, including version control and compatibility of Crossplane, Terraform core, and providers.
  • Collaborating closely with Grafana Cloud application teams to understand their requirements and ensure investments align with user needs.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate thrives in a remote-first, collaborative, and consensus-driven culture, enjoys engaging with engineers and management alike, and is comfortable with distributed systems. A passion for ongoing learning and growth is valued, as is a holistic approach to software development encompassing design documentation, developer feedback, integration testing, and operational ownership. Experience with Go, Python, and Shell scripting is typical within the team.

Experience operating software in production environments, familiarity with datacenter operations, and willingness to participate in on-call rotations are expected.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Cluster-API, Tinkerbell, Talos, and/or Ceph.
  • Background contributing to open-source or community-based projects, reflecting Grafana Labs' open-source culture.
  • Practical knowledge of cloud service providers such as AWS, GCP, and Azure, especially managed Kubernetes services (EKS, GKE, AKS).
  • Hands-on experience managing Kubernetes workloads, configuration management using Tanka and Jsonnet, and familiarity with Kubernetes scheduling tools like Karpenter.
  • Experience with Terraform and/or Crossplane for infrastructure as code management.
  • Enthusiasm for programming in Go to build custom tools and exporters, potentially contributing to open-source projects.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this role in Ireland is €81,600 to €97,920, varying based on level, experience, and skills evaluated during the selection process. Positions include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) to promote alignment and shared success. Compensation ranges may differ by country and will be discussed during recruitment if applying from other locations.
