Job description

About Halter

Halter is dedicated to revolutionizing farming by empowering farmers and graziers to run highly productive, sustainable operations through innovative technology. Our customers use Halter to replace time-intensive traditional methods—imagine calmly walking cattle without quad bikes, dogs, or fences. Our solutions transform agriculture, impacting lives and the industry itself. Backed by leading investors like Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck, we foster a driven, high-performance culture that tackles tough challenges with ingenuity and dedication.

Role Overview

As a Senior Failure Analysis Engineer at Halter, you'll play a critical role in examining failed hardware products such as collars and tower components to identify root causes. Since our devices are sophisticated electromechanical systems that must last 6–10 years without repair or servicing worldwide, it's essential to thoroughly investigate every malfunction in both field and lab environments. Your technical acumen and methodical problem-solving will bridge the gap between test feedback and engineering, ensuring improved product durability and reliability for farmers globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolve complex and ambiguous failure modes hands-on, working closely with the actual products.
  • Contribute to refining failure analysis processes to enhance accuracy and decrease false positives (no-fault-found cases).
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers, broadening their technical skills and analytical approaches over time.
  • Collaborate intensively with hardware, firmware, production, supplier quality, and network teams to diagnose issues and confirm root causes.
  • Support recruitment efforts to build a talented, disciplined, and inquisitive failure analysis team.

Candidate Profile

  • Extensive electronics engineering experience, including hands-on debugging of complex hardware systems.
  • Proficient at analyzing field failures and correlating in-field incidents with product malfunctions.
  • Excellent communicator who can clearly translate findings for cross-functional teams.
  • Enthusiastic about knowledge sharing and mentoring others.
  • Curious and systematic with a commitment to discover root causes based on solid evidence.
  • Proactive with strong ownership instincts, unafraid to engage with wide-ranging challenges.
  • Modest, collaborative, and team-oriented, prioritizing group success over individual accolade.

Additional Information

Halter is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment where everyone can thrive. We encourage applications from candidates who believe they are a strong fit even if not all criteria are met. Joining Halter means engaging in meaningful work that makes a real difference for farmers worldwide, surrounded by a dynamic and supportive team focused on innovation and continuous learning. The company offers opportunities for personal growth including a $1,000 annual development fund.
