Job description

Position Overview

Auckland Council’s Licensing and Compliance department invites applications for four fixed-term full-time Compliance Warden positions available until August 2027. This role is field-based, providing an opportunity to engage directly with local communities to foster safer environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and identify potential risks to public safety and wellbeing within communities across Auckland.
  • Conduct site visits and engage with residents, businesses, and community groups to build understanding and liaise on concerns.
  • Offer advice and support to ensure compliance with council requirements, focusing on early intervention and education.
  • Evaluate situations accurately and take appropriate measures, including escalation when necessary.
  • Collaborate with Police, business associations, community patrols, and other agencies to address public safety issues.

Candidate Profile

  • 1 to 2 years of experience in compliance, security, regulatory, or closely related environments.
  • Familiarity with legislation, policies, procedures, or regulatory frameworks relevant to compliance roles.
  • Capability to assess diverse situations, identify risks, and decide on suitable actions.
  • Achievement of NCEA Level 3 or equivalent educational qualification.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Holds a current and valid New Zealand driver’s license.

While previous local government compliance knowledge is not essential, training and guidance will be provided to enhance understanding of council bylaws and compliance processes. Candidates with partial requirements are encouraged to apply.

Additional Information

  • These 4 positions are fixed-term contracts extending until August 2027.
  • The role includes a remuneration range from NZD 67,414 to NZD 79,310 annually, plus shift and on-call allowances. The employer’s KiwiSaver contributions are additional to base salary.
  • This position is classified as safety-sensitive and requires candidates to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
  • A clean, valid full driver’s license is mandatory.
  • Appointment to this role will require being warranted by Auckland Council, permitting entry to premises for inspection purposes.
