About the Role

Our client is a leading commercial law firm in Ireland, well-regarded for assisting clients through complex and high-stakes matters. Their finance department consists of a close-knit team of seven professionals. They are seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to assist the Financial Controller and ensure the smooth management of daily financial activities for the firm.

This position offers a broad and practical scope with opportunities for personal and professional growth. The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for month-end activities, maintaining the firm's control environment, and managing payroll for the business operations in Ireland and the UK. The role provides a supportive work environment where employee development is prioritized.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Financial Controller with month-end tasks, preparation of management accounts, financial reports, and enforcement of control procedures.
  • Prepare accounting entries including journals, accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Manage ledgers for the firm's service and UK entities, including processing monthly recharges.
  • Perform balance sheet and bank reconciliations and review general ledger activities.
  • Handle full payroll processing for over 150 employees situated in Ireland and the UK.
  • Ensure robust client account controls adhering to Law Society regulations.
  • Track work-in-progress (WIP), outlays, client balances, and other essential control accounts.
  • Provide support and guidance to colleagues in daily financial operations.

Candidate Requirements

  • At least five years experience in a similar finance or accounts assistant role within Professional Services.
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with financial controls and reconciliation processes.
  • Proficiency in payroll processing.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • Part or fully qualified ACCA or an equivalent professional accounting certification.
  • Experience working in legal or professional services firms, and familiarity with legal practice management systems, will be considered a significant advantage.
