Job description

Role Overview

This position involves execution of testing and commissioning operations for high voltage (HV) and extra high voltage (EHV) substations, ranging from 13.8kV up to 380kV, ensuring proper installation, functionality, and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough testing and commissioning of HV/EHV substations spanning 13.8kV to 380kV ratings.
  • Execute pre-commissioning and commissioning tasks for key electrical equipment including power transformers, GIS/AIS switchgear, circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, current transformers (CTs), voltage transformers (VTs/CVTs), protection and control panels, as well as SCADA and communication systems.
  • Conduct protection relay testing and configuration through secondary and primary injection testing methods.
  • Carry out transformer-specific exams such as Turns Ratio Test (TTR), winding resistance, insulation resistance, and operational functionality tests.
  • Validate interlock mechanisms, control logic, and overall protection schemes for system safety and performance.
  • Support energization and synchronization processes to integrate equipment into operational networks.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues arising during commissioning phases.
  • Develop and maintain commissioning documentation including procedures, test reports, and punch lists.
  • Collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, and project teams throughout commissioning activities.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on daily, weekly, and final commissioning progress and outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Have between 5 and 10 years of practical experience in the testing and commissioning of high voltage substations.
  • Demonstrated expertise working with AIS/GIS substations with voltage levels up to 132kV, 220kV, and 380kV.

Key Competencies

  • Strong technical problem-solving and system troubleshooting skills.
  • Analytical mindset capable of understanding complex electrical engineering systems.
  • Keen awareness of safety practices and ability to enforce safety standards.
  • Efficient planning and coordination capabilities to manage multiple testing activities.
