Job description

About Sentry

Sentry is a leading platform that helps developers identify and resolve application errors and performance issues before they affect users, enabling teams to focus more on building and less on firefighting. Trusted by over 200,000 organizations worldwide, Sentry is pioneering the future of AI-native application monitoring.

Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in JavaScript SDKs, you will join Sentry's dynamic JavaScript SDK team to innovate and build cutting-edge tools shaping the future of server-side and edge JavaScript runtimes. Your work will support millions of developers by enhancing SDKs across Node.js, Bun, Deno, Cloudflare Workers, and other modern platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a broad range of JavaScript SDKs focused on server-side and edge environments, including Node.js, Bun, Deno, and distributed platforms like Cloudflare Workers.
  • Assume full ownership of your projects from design and planning through implementation, testing, and documentation to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Leverage AI tools to increase productivity and concentrate on solving challenging problems that deliver substantial value.
  • Actively participate and contribute to the open-source community by collaborating with influential groups such as TC39, the Node.js core team, and OpenTelemetry SIG to guide JavaScript standards and runtime interoperability.
  • Engage directly with the Customer Operations team and the user community on GitHub and at industry gatherings to address critical bugs and enhance user experience.

Ideal Candidate Attributes

  • Passionate about crafting features that are not only functional but delightful to use.
  • Driven developer focused on building superior tools for fellow engineers.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, iterative development environment that celebrates frequent code shipping.
  • Eager to dedicate full-time efforts to globally recognized open-source initiatives.
  • Thrives in a collaborative culture surrounded by thoughtful and inspiring engineers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Software Engineer, web developer, or related roles.
  • Expertise in developing web applications, libraries, or SDKs using TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • Proficient with Node.js and familiar with one or more modern server runtimes such as Bun, Deno, or Cloudflare Workers, understanding their differences in module systems, APIs, performance, and deployment.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Located in or willing to relocate to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Additional Advantages

  • Experience with WinterCG, the Web-interoperable Runtimes Community Group, or other runtime interoperability projects.
  • Knowledge of OpenTelemetry instrumentation in server-side or edge environments.
  • Open-source contributions or maintenance of libraries.
  • Participation in open-source committees or working groups.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected base salary for this position ranges from CAD 200,000 to CAD 295,000 annually, with final compensation determined by factors such as location, education, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge. Employees are eligible for benefits including incentive compensation, equity awards, paid time off, and group health insurance.

Sentry is dedicated to providing equal employment opportunities regardless of legally protected characteristics, committed to accommodating employees’ and candidates’ needs related to disabilities, and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
