Senior Software Engineer I - Agentic Engineering

Overview

The Senior Software Engineer will be a key contributor to the Agentic Engineering team at Coder, responsible for developing and enhancing complex systems that enable agentic development experiences. This role involves hands-on software development focused on integrating agents with real development environments and ensuring reliable and scalable workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and develop production-grade systems primarily using Go, while occasionally leveraging React and TypeScript for frontend needs.
• Enhance agent execution capabilities, including tool utilization, context handling, streaming data, and managing long-term workflows.
• Expand and refine a provider-independent architecture in response to evolving model technologies and functionalities.
• Create robust integrations linking agents, developer workspaces, various tools, and platform infrastructure.
• Manage projects throughout the entire lifecycle from conception and development to deployment and iteration.
• Engage actively in code and design reviews, as well as technical discussions to maintain high code quality.
• Collaborate with Product and Design teams to translate agent functionalities into effective developer tools and experiences.
• Focus on improving system stability, performance, and operational excellence in agentic platforms.

Qualifications and Skills

• Extensive experience designing and managing production software systems.
• Proficient in programming with Go.
• Knowledgeable in React and TypeScript for frontend development.
• Experience in developing systems related to Large Language Models (LLMs) or agentic workflows.
• Understanding of model APIs, tool invocation, context management, and agent loop mechanisms.
• Strong grasp of distributed systems and their reliability in production environments.
• Familiarity with AWS cloud services.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and comfortable navigating technical uncertainties.
• Team-focused contributor who actively participates in code reviews and knowledge sharing.

Additional Preferred Experience

• Hands-on with coding agents, developer tooling, or cloud-based development environments.
• Exposure to Multi-agent Coordination Protocols (MCP), agent tooling, or multi-agent system design.
• Background in remote execution, sandbox technologies, or isolated compute environments.
• Experience integrating multiple model providers.
• Skills in operating AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and Linux environments.
• Open-source contributions or direct customer engagement experience.

Technical Stack

• Backend technologies include Go and Postgres.
• Frontend technologies comprise TypeScript and React.
• Infrastructure utilizes AWS and Kubernetes.
• Monitoring and observability supported by Prometheus and Grafana.
• Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment processes use GitHub Actions.
