About the Role
Join Databricks as a Senior Engineering Manager responsible for leading backend engineering teams that develop scalable infrastructure and services for the Databricks platform. This role involves working with multiple teams to build resource management infrastructure for big data and machine learning workloads in a secure, scalable, and cloud-agnostic manner. You will be developing reliable services and client libraries to handle massive data sets spanning multiple cloud providers and geographic regions, alongside building tools for operating services across diverse environments. Additionally, you will contribute to services intersecting machine learning and distributed systems.
Responsibilities
- Recruit and expand a strong engineering team to deliver exceptional results.
- Mentor engineers and help develop future leaders by providing constructive feedback and career growth support.
- Maintain high technical quality through implementing rigorous architectural reviews, thorough testing, and fostering a culture of engineering excellence.
- Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to define and execute a long-term engineering roadmap.
- Coordinate cross-team efforts to ensure smooth progress on projects cutting across domains.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- A minimum of 12 years of comprehensive experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems, including expertise in testing, monitoring, and maintaining service-level agreements.
- Proven leadership in building and scaling software engineering teams from the ground up.
- Strong background in managing and guiding software engineers towards high performance.
- Experience partnering effectively with product management, sales, and customers to innovate and deliver impactful features.
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field.
