About The Team
Our People Operations and Payroll team ensures smooth operations behind the scenes at SumUp by making sure every employee is paid precisely and punctually. Located in Berlin, you will be part of the Northern Europe People Ops and Payroll team, collaborating closely with a Senior Payroll Partner specializing in German payroll, People Operations colleagues, and our external payroll provider.
Role Overview
This position is centered around exactness, where you will manage day-to-day operational payroll activities specific to Germany. You'll gain expertise in German payroll laws while playing a vital role in maintaining employee trust. With SumUp's growth, there is potential to expand into other European payrolls.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist throughout the monthly German payroll cycle, including preparation, verification, reconciliation, and submission of payroll inputs.
- Handle employee payroll inquiries through the ticketing system with accuracy and promptness.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation alongside People Operations.
- Ensure payroll aligns with German tax, labor, and social security regulations.
- Spot potential efficiencies in payroll processes to reduce manual work and improve workflows.
Candidate Profile
- Fluent in German and English, both verbally and in writing.
- Prior experience supporting payroll procedures or managing payroll-related data.
- Proficient in Excel functions, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and IF statements.
- Capable of safeguarding confidential information with discretion and integrity.
- Comfortable in detail-oriented, deadline-driven environments while maintaining organization and accuracy.
- Motivated to develop a deep understanding of German payroll legislation and demonstrates a proactive learning attitude.
